VoIP Phone FAQs
Can I keep my exisiting phone number?
Yes, you can keep your existing phone number in most cases. After the fiber internet is installed it generally takes around 2 weeks for phone service to be switched to our services.
Is long distance service included?
Yes, unlimited long distance is included with our phone service. In addition, it will no longer be necessary to dial a 1 when calling long distance. All calls are 10 digit dialing.
Can I use my existing phones?
In most cases yes. Traditional analog phones will work with our Residential phone service.
How do I connect to the new phone service?
There is a phone port on the back of the Gigacenter that was installed to provide your internet service. All that is required is to plug your phone into the grey port on the back labeled PHONE 1. If placement of the Gigacenter or the existing phones will not work for the above mentioned scenario, there are additional options.
A technician can come out and connect to the existing wiring. Rewiring the house for additional phone jacks may include additional charges. It is our recommendation to try and plug the phone directly into the Gigacenter to ensure the best voice quality and performance.
Are phones installed at the same time as the fiber?
If you are requesting a new number, it is possible to have phone on the same day.
If you are keeping your existing number, it is generally 10 – 15 business days after the install is completed before the number is released from your current phone provider.
What will my phone number prefix be?
If you are requesting a new number your new prefix will be:

Will my phone lines work if the power goes out?
If your internet router and phone base are plugged into a backup battery or power source, your internet and phone service will work during a power outage.
Is international calling available?
Yes, international calling is available. However, it is not activated with the new service. Member must request international calling to be activated. The rate for international calls is $0.20 per minute. Not all countries are accessible using BEC Fiber VoIP phone service, contact us for more details.
What is the E911 document?
This document is stating that the address provided to BEC will be noted in the 911 database. If 911 is called from the number provided be BEC or your existing number you have chosen to keep, that is the address that will be sent to the 911 dispatchers. Need to fill out the form? VoIP and fiber broadband services are not available in all areas. Please check for availability by calling 866.226.3372. VoIP service requires fiber broadband agreement.
