More than 500 BEC members lost power in the early morning hours on Wednesday, May 6, after a drunk driver destroyed two electric poles at the intersection of I-10 and Scenic Loop in the Boerne area.

BEC crews were dispatched shortly after the crash to restore electric service and replace the poles. Communication lines attached to the affected poles were damaged, resulting in a phone and internet outage affecting multiple providers including BEC Fiber, GVTC, and Spectrum phone and internet.

Electric services were restored by 6:30 a.m. and phone and internet services were restored around 2:45 p.m.
