BEC Foundation Awards $7,500 in Community Grants

Two nonprofit organizations within the Bandera Electric Cooperative service territory recently received more than $7,500 in BEC Foundation grants. The BEC Foundation has awarded more than $20,000 so far this year. The BEC Foundation board awards grants based on its charitable giving guidelines and predetermined criteria.

Comfort Public Library received a $5,000 grant to significantly update the library and meet emerging needs. The updates include handicapped accessibility for ADA compliance, a dedicated children’s area and young adult space, and a 30% increase of shelf space.

“Thanks to the support of organizations like the BEC Foundation, our library will be able to bring our building into ADA compliance, as well as allowing us to update our interior space bringing more books, more learning space, and more programs to the youth and adults of Comfort and surrounding area” said Kimberli Evans, Comfort Public Library director. “This project will help improve the lives of our Comfort area residents, and the trustees and staff of the library are thankful and appreciative of the BEC Foundation’s generous donation” added Evans.

The Leakey Little League received a $2,500 grant to purchase seating and awnings for a newly added softball field. The awnings will provide shade and protection against foul balls for spectators.

“The Leakey Little League sincerely appreciates the BEC Foundation for their continued support of our youth program,” said Renee Rimkus, Leakey Little League president. “The grant will help us get much closer to our ultimate goal of $10,000 to construct a new awning over bleachers at the new softball field.”
