BEC Expands Fiber Service Coverage to Hundreds of Members

Bandera Electric Cooperative recently expanded its fiber coverage area, providing access to more than 500 additional members. The areas included in this latest expansion are located near Highway 16 between Bandera and Medina, and areas south of Bandera, near Highway 173.

“These areas had little access to acceptable broadband speeds,” said Allen Marshall, BEC Fiber outside plant operations manager. “Extending fiber-optic internet services to these members means they now have the tools they need to for work or leisure.”

The new growth is part of BEC’s ongoing commitment to offer fast, reliable internet to its members. BEC has increased its fiber coverage area to more than 4,000 additional members since January 1, 2021. Fiber is available to more than 67% of the membership with nearly 9,600 total fiber subscribers to date.

“BEC has a focused approach to expanding fiber internet to our membership in the coming years, and will continue to investigate funding alternatives that may help expedite the process,” said Marshall.
