BEC donated $6,000 to four local food pantries throughout its service territory in honor of Giving Tuesday on November 30 to make a positive impact in our community.

Food pantry recipients include Comfort Table and Food Pantry, Hill Country Family Services, Bandera Silver Sage and Utopia Food Pantry. The food pantries serve the counties of Bandera, Kendall and Uvalde.

Demand across the area has steadily increased since the start of the pandemic, and food donations to the pantries are more important than ever as more people become impacted by the economic effects of COVID-19.

“2021 has been a tough year for so many in our rural community. The pandemic and the winter storm have made matters even worse for the most vulnerable of our population,” said Art Crawford, CEO of Silver Sage. “This donation from BEC will enable the Silver Sage to continue with our mission and to provide additional food and nutrition to 2,400 Bandera County residents every month.”

Food pantries have an enormous responsibility to provide nutritionally balanced meals and other social services to the most vulnerable members of the community.

“We would like to thank BEC for their generous donation to the Utopia Food Pantry. This will provide many nourishing meals through the holidays for the families we support,” said Evelyn Ohara, Utopia Food Pantry secretary.

BEC continually strives to uphold the cooperative principle Concern for Community with a maintained focus on member needs for the sustainable development of its communities.
