Our Commitment to Youth.
At Bandera Electric, commitment to our members is a top priority, and as a Cooperative, we are guided by the Seven Cooperative Principles, which includes Education, Training and Information. We seek to provide education and training for our members ... especially our young members. That is why we award scholarships to high school and college students each year, as well as send two students on the Government-in-Action Youth Tour to Washington D.C. If you know a student who might qualify for these programs, encourage them to apply.
Bandera Electric is committed to the leaders of tomorrow, and we encourage members and their children to work hard and follow their dreams. We offer scholarships to local high school and home-schooled graduating seniors and college students. BEC scholarships may be applied toward tuition, fees and expenses at any college, university, junior college, technical school or trade school
Each year, Bandera Electric awards ten $2,500 scholarships. Recipients of the scholarships will be chosen based on the following:
- Financial necessity
- Written essay
- Participation in community/school activities
Winners are chosen by a scholarship committee made up of co-op members and are announced at local graduation and award ceremonies.
The scholarship program was established in 1999 by Bandera Electric Cooperative to encourage and assist in the educational pursuits of its members and their immediate families. Since then, we have awarded $175,000 in scholarships!
