After 42 years of service, Robert Rodriguez, Line Foreman in Construction, is hanging up his hard hat. Robert retires on August 29, 2025—exactly 42 years to the day since he began his career with Bandera Electric Cooperative in 1983.
Throughout the decades, Robert earned a reputation not only for his exceptional skill and work ethic but also for his unwavering dedication to BEC members and his fellow linemen.
“Robert was like an older brother,” said David Ross, System Operations Supervisor, who started at BEC in 1991 and was mentored by Robert early in his career. “He had high standards, but still made it fun. I learned a lot from him. If you needed something, Robert would always help. He’s not just a coworker—he’s a friend.”
Robert’s influence stretched far beyond the job site. His calm, steady demeanor in high-pressure situations became a trademark, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Mark Busby, Transmission and Distribution Operations Manager, reflected on two standout memories from their time in the field together. “My favorite was when we were sent on hurricane relief in the early 2000s. As a young Foreman facing 15 days of tough working and sleeping conditions, Robert was a huge help. I’ll never forget how he kept us going.”
Busby also recalled a particularly memorable job west of Medina, in a small community called Tuff, Texas. “We had to climb every pole on a conductor change job. That wasn’t unusual, but what our Foreman didn’t tell us was that all the poles were old, rotten 45 Class 7s—and every ridge pin had a family of bats living in it.”
Despite the challenges, Robert always pushed forward with a sense of purpose and professionalism. “When things get crazy, he just stays on track and gets things done,” Busby said. “I really admire that, and I’ll miss it.”
Above all, Robert's legacy is defined by his commitment to the people BEC serves. “What stands out to me is how dedicated Robert is to the members,” Busby added. “No matter what the situation was, he always did right by them.”
As Robert enters retirement, his impact on BEC and the community is undeniable. He leaves behind not only a legacy of excellence and leadership but also a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working beside him.
