Due to current high wind advisories across our service area, Bandera Electric Cooperative is reminding members to use caution around electrical infrastructure.
Strong winds can create hazardous conditions that may impact power lines and slow restoration efforts as crews work safely.
Potential Hazards During High Winds
• Galloping Wires: High winds can cause overhead power lines to oscillate or “gallop,” creating sudden movements that may lead to line contact or breakage.
• Swaying Slack Spans: Lines between poles may swing significantly during strong gusts, increasing the risk of damage or accidental contact.
• Increased Risk for Lineworkers: These conditions make repair and maintenance extremely dangerous. Our crews follow strict safety protocols, and restoration times may be longer to ensure their safety.
What Members Can Do
• Stay far away from any downed or sagging power lines—always assume they are energized.
• Report outages or hazards immediately through BEC’s official reporting channels.
• Avoid outdoor activities near power lines during high wind events.
