In 1984 Ronald Reagan won the presidency, Beverly Hills Cop was the top movie, the Olympics came to Los Angeles, and Mike Satsky came to BEC. After an incredible 41-year career, Lineman First Class Mike Satsky is preparing to hang up his hooks and retire in May. Fresh out of high school, Mike joined Bandera Electric Cooperative and never looked back, dedicating his career to serving our members and keeping our community powered.
One of Mike’s favorite parts of the job was traveling for storm restoration, assisting other cooperatives in times of need. Those experiences not only strengthened his skills but also deepened his appreciation for the work linemen do every day. While he’ll miss the friendships he’s built over the years, he’s ready for the next chapter—relaxing and enjoying life with his wife.
“Mike is never afraid to speak his mind,” said Garrett Clark, Line Foreman. “I’ll miss his unwavering willingness to lend a hand.”
One of Garrett’s favorite memories was working alongside Mike during Hurricane Beryl, where his experience and leadership shined through.
Mark Busby, Transmission & Distribution Operations Manager, reflected on their early days as apprentices in the late ’80s.
“Everything was a competition—racing to climb poles, tie in lines, and complete jobs faster than anyone else.”
Their foreman didn’t mind; in fact, he encouraged it, knowing they were the fastest and most efficient crew around. Mark also noted Mike’s dedication to members, always going the extra mile to help in any way he could.
Mike’s hard work, commitment, and camaraderie have left a lasting impact on BEC. Thank you for your service—enjoy your well-earned retirement.
