Conserve Energy Through Late Tuesday Morning to Help Keep the Grid Reliable
Bandera Electric Cooperative is asking members to help conserve electricity now through late Tuesday morning as freezing temperatures from Winter Storm Fern continue to impact the region. Due to the extreme cold, electric demand across the BEC system is running very close to an all-time peak, and conservation efforts are needed to help maintain reliability for everyone.
Demand is expected to rise again. Reducing energy use during these critical times can make a meaningful difference in easing strain on the electric system.
Peak Conservation Periods
Members are encouraged to conserve energy as much as possible during the following peak windows:

Tonight: 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Tomorrow morning: 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Simple Steps That Make a Big Difference
Small actions taken by many members can collectively help protect the grid:

Set thermostats to 68 degrees or lower, lowering further if possible, and avoid large temperature swings

Delay use of major appliances such as laundry machines and dishwashers until after peak hours

Limit the use of space heaters, as they consume large amounts of electricity; if used, operate safely and only in occupied rooms

Turn off non-essential lights and electronics and limit prolonged oven use when alternatives are available
Conserving energy during these peak periods helps reduce strain on the electric system and supports reliable service for all members during this winter weather event.
