Three local students representing Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) recently joined more than 150 Texas students for the annual Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C., an educational leadership experience sponsored by electric cooperatives across the state and nation.
During the weeklong trip, delegates visited historic landmarks including the United States Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian Institution and the Washington National Cathedral while learning about American history, government and leadership.
The experience allowed BEC delegates Elliora Groot, Cullen Watson and Rynlee Fiedler to gain a firsthand understanding of civic engagement and public service.
“Standing inside the Washington National Cathedral gave me a moment to reflect on the history and traditions that have shaped our nation. It was both humbling and inspiring,” said Watson.
“Youth Tour gave me the opportunity to visit places like the Smithsonian that broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of our country's history, achievements and the people who helped shape them,” said Groot.
“Youth Tour is an incredible opportunity for students to expand their horizons, develop leadership skills and learn more about our nation’s history and government,” said Bill Heatherington, CEO of BEC. “We are proud to support these outstanding young people and provide experiences that help prepare them for future success.”
BEC has sponsored local students through Youth Tour for many years as part of its ongoing commitment to education, leadership development and investing in the next generation of community leaders.
