Bandera, Texas — March 11, 2026 — Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) is responding to a power outage affecting members in the Leakey and Concan area across Real and Uvalde counties following severe thunderstorms that moved through the Texas Hill Country Tuesday night.
Initial assessments indicate severe storm activity affected the Leakey Substation. Early indicators suggest lightning may have struck at or near the substation. The exact cause remains under investigation.
Crews and specialists worked through the night and continue to evaluate the condition of the substation equipment. To restore service as quickly as possible, BEC called upon utility partners to assist in restoration efforts. BEC has deployed a mobile unit to the Leakey site while equipment is being assessed. The affected equipment will be re-energized once deemed safe and conditions allow.
