Ten area high school students have received scholarships through the Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) Scholarship Program. The scholarships were recently awarded at local school ceremonies, with several members of the BEC Board of Directors in attendance to present the award.
Each winning high school senior received $2,500 towards tuition and fees at accredited colleges, junior colleges, and approved technical or trade schools.
Open to graduating high school seniors and homeschooled students within BEC’s service territory, the program is designed to ease the financial burden of continuing education while encouraging students to stay focused on their academic and career goals.
This year’s recipients were selected from a competitive pool of more than 100 applicants. Students were evaluated based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need, and a personal essay outlining how their education will benefit their communities. Many applicants shared a common goal: to return home after completing their studies and contribute to the growth and sustainability of rural areas.

Since launching the program in 1998, BEC has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships, supporting hundreds of local students as they take the next step in their educational journeys. The initiative reflects the cooperative’s ongoing mission to invest in its members and strengthen the communities it serves.
