BEC members who own their property, have internet service and a qualifying smart thermostat.
Absolutely. During a program event, you can override the thermostat adjustment at any time. However, to remain eligible for the annual ApolloWatt credit, you must participate in at least 70% of the program control minutes each year.
No. You will always be able to control your thermostat.
BEC does not want to control your thermostat. The Smart Thermostat Program is voluntary and gives members the option to allow BEC to make temporary thermostat adjustments during periods of highest electricity demand. These adjustments help reduce overall energy costs for all BEC members.
As a thank-you for participating in at least 70% of all program control minutes, you will receive an annual ApolloWatt bill credit.
The start time and length of each event will depend on the level of demand on the power grid at that time. During the hour before an event begins, your thermostat may be adjusted to pre-cool or pre-heat your home in preparation for the event.
The specific temperature will vary based on your settings. The temperature setting will never be adjusted more than 4 degrees in either direction. You can update your temperature preferences in the app at any time.
After enrollment, participants who take part in at least 70% of the program’s control minutes will qualify for an additional ApolloWatt bill credit each year. The annual credit will be applied to the participant’s billing statement following their enrollment anniversary.
You may un-enroll from the program at any time by contacting BEC. However, opting out within one year of your initial enrollment or annual renewal may result in a penalty, including the reversal of the most recent ApolloWatt bill credit.
Please visit ecobee’s online support center or call ecobee support at (877) 932-6233. BEC can adjust your thermostat during times of high energy demand only and cannot provide product support.
BEC-initiated adjustment events occur when BEC adjusts your thermostat’s temperature setting to curb demand on the electric grid. In the first hour, BEC will pre-heat or pre-cool your home. After the first hour, BEC will incrementally increase or decrease your thermostat’s setting from its original setting. Please note that BEC will not turn off your thermostat at any time.
