Light Bulb Recycling

Bandera Electric wants to make recycling bulbs easy and convenient for our members. We offer recycling containers for CFLs, 2-foot and 4-foot fluorescent bulbs at all of our office locations. All you have to do is stop by and drop your bulbs off in the containers provided. At this time, we do NOT recycle 8-foot fluorescent bulbs, incandescent bulbs or batteries.

Why We Recycle CLF and Flourescent Bulbs

CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs contain small amounts of mercury. Each bulb contains about four milligrams of the toxic metal. Broken CFL bulbs can be damaging to the environment if they enter landfills or the water supply.

To dispose of your CFL bulbs properly, recycle them at any of our BEC office locations. Other home improvement stores and recycling centers in your area may also accept CFL bulbs.

You may see long, tube-shapes florescent bulbs in your office. Or, you will even see them in closets, older kitchens, or garages. Like CFL bulbs, fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, so you should recycle them.

How To Remove Bulbs Safely

Before you remove a burnt-out tube, it is wise to turn off the electrical at the circuit for that part of your home to avoid injury. Also, it’s a good idea to wrap your fluorescent bulbs in an old packing material to help prevent them from breaking.

The following navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.
