Two nonprofit organizations within the Bandera Electric Cooperative service territory recently received more than $19,000 in BEC Foundation grants for the fourth quarter grant cycle.

Riding the River Cowboy Fellowship in Bandera received a $9,320 grant for RRCF Care Team Funding to provide Christmas meals, gifts, and coats to families in need. The Care Team is a new initiative started by the Fellowship to practice what the Bible teaches.

“Jesus said to take care of those in need, and we’re going to use the money to help the less fortunate have a merry Christmas, one that is a little brighter,” said Larry Hayes, RRCF Care Team member.

The Boys and Girls Club of Bandera County received a $10,000 grant towards the purchase of a multi-passenger transit van. The new van will replace the current 19-year-old van and will be used for special programs and activities.

“We were blessed in 2011 with a donation of a used van that has served us well, and now again our community partners have supported us in beginning the funding process to replace this van transport,” said Amy Ouellette, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County. “BEC’s donation of $10,000 puts us more than one third of the way towards achieving our goal of $30,000 to finance this replacement. This generous gift right around the Christmas holiday is a double blessing.”

The BEC Foundation is the philanthropic arm of BEC. Its mission is to support qualifying nonprofit organizations in its service area through charitable contributions with a focus on education, safety and overall concern for community.

The BEC Foundation is supported in part by BEC. However, the community is invited to contribute. Members can round up their bill to the nearest whole-dollar, select the BEC Foundation as their favorite charity on AmazonSmile, or donate at any time.

In 2021, the BEC Foundation awarded more than $40,000 in community grants. The BEC Foundation board awards grants based on its charitable giving guidelines and predetermined criteria, and accepts grant applications on a quarterly basis. The next grant application deadline is March 31, 2022. For information and eligibility requirements, visit BanderaElectric.com/Giving.
