BEC Encourages Emergency Preparedness

Bandera Electric Cooperative is proactively preparing for an upcoming winter storm that has the potential to bring icy precipitation and possible outages. BEC encourages its members to prepare for the storm and know how to report outages should they occur.

When expecting bad weather, plug in your cell phone as soon as possible before the storm hits in case you lose power. With a charged cell phone, it is likely that you will still be able to make phone calls, receive regular updates from BEC social media and local news, as well as view weather reports and our online outage map.

In addition to preemptively charging your phone, it is recommended that you keep batteries, flashlights, a weather radio, bottled water, candles, lighters, canned goods, and other non-perishable food items on hand for an emergency. Storm preparation is an important factor in lessening its impact. BEC encourages members and employees alike to make a family emergency plan now and to take precautions all year long. More information for storm preparation tips can be found online at Ready.Gov.

Should you experience a service interruption, please report it by using the myBEC mobile app or call 866.226.3372, and select Option #2, to report the occurrence to the 24/7 dispatch center.

“We encourage members to leave a message for our dispatchers, whether on the phone or in the app, that includes their phone number, address, gate combination to access the property, and known road conditions,” said David Ross, BEC system operations supervisor. “It is also important to note that BEC employees may be on foot during restoration efforts as they patrol lines to pinpoint the source of an outage.”
