Welcome back and thanks for learning about the ways to watch live TV without paying the high cost of cable or satellite.

In How to Watch Live TV through BEC Fiber Internet: Part 1 we discussed the variety of streaming services that use the internet to transmit video to your TV.

In Part 2 we outlined the streaming devices you can use to cut the cord, drop the dish and watch what you want when you want it.

Now we’ll tackle another option for watching live TV: high-definition (HD) antennas.

HD Antenna for Live Broadcast TV

An HD antenna is yet another way to get live TV without a cable or satellite subscription.

An HD antenna picks up local broadcast signals from the airwaves and brings them to your TV by connecting to a streaming device or directly to your TV. Depending on where you live, this could provide a few or dozens of channels.

Some popular HD antennas are the Mohu Releaf ($40), ClearStream Eclipse ($40), Mohu Curve Amplified ($70). The Clearstream 2Max HDTV Antenna ($40-$150) is suited for indoor and outdoor use, and the Winegard Elite 7550 ($150) is a strong outdoor antenna.

If you want to record shows, search online for “popular over-the-air DVR.” Adding DVR capabilities can cost $5 per month up to $150 for a one-time subscription.

Not every area or neighborhood is well suited for antenna viewing, especially considering that broadcast signals can be obscured or blocked by hilly terrain. Before you purchase an antenna, search online for a “TV signal analysis tool” to determine which channels are available in your area.

Combining an Antenna and a Streaming Device

You could use an HD antenna alone and see how many channels and what kind of signal quality you get.

Or you could use an HD antenna in combination with a streaming device to stream shows and movies to your TV. If you want to use a streaming device, you’ll need to have BEC fiber internet to do so.

A Note about Sports

You can use an HD antenna or an antenna combined with a streaming device to watch games covered by your local stations. Due to licensing agreements, you won’t find those games on streaming services.

With BEC fiber internet, you can still stream sports and games not covered by your local stations through streaming services available on sport leagues’ websites.

Thanks for reading about yet another way you can watch live TV without cable or satellite. We hope this helps. No matter what option you choose, BEC’s 100% fiber internet makes streaming live TV easy and more affordable.
