Starting December 25, 2009, all residential and small commercial Members have the opportunity to join the new BEC Wind Works program. Wind Works gives Members the choice to purchase renewable energy while securing a constant rate for 2010.

 

BEC received an overwhelming response from our Members regarding purchasing renewable energy. At your request, we have purchased over 200% more wind energy than in years prior, resulting in a total of 20 million kilowatt-hours (kWh’s) being bought each year. 

 

The fixed price under Wind Works will be $0.10691 per kWh and the price will remain the same for one year. Wind Works gives you the power to hold your cost of energy steady while using a renewable resource to provide your electricity. 

 

For comparison, residential Members on standard rates paid an average of $0.10305 per kWh during 2008 and an average of $0.08910 per kWh during 2009. This standard rate changes as the price of the nonrenewable fossil fuels (such as coal and natural gas) used to produce this energy fluctuates. Members on Wind Works will not have this volatility affecting the price they pay per kWh.

 

If you wish to be part of Wind Works, fill out an application and mail or drop it by one of our offices.  This program will be administered on a first come, first serve basis and is only available until the 20 million kilowatt-hours are sold out. Keep in mind that all residential and small commercial Members are eligible to be part of the program.

Members who were part of the Choose to Renew program that ended on December 24th need to complete a new application to join Wind Works.
