Scholarship Program

For 2010, Bandera Electric Cooperative again awarded ten area high school seniors and currently enrolled post-secondary education students with $1,000 scholarships.  Congratulations to this year's scholarship winners!

Recipients were chosen by the selection panel based on three criteria:

  • Financial Need
  • Community Involvement & School Involvement
  • Strength of Essay

History
This scholarship program was established in 1998 by Bandera Electric Cooperative to encourage and assist in the educational pursuits of its members and their immediate families.

Texas House Bill 3203, which was passed September 1997, permits not-for-profit electric cooperatives to retain unclaimed capital credit payments for scholarships.  The number of scholarships and the amount awarded will vary annually, based on the unclaimed capital credit payments for that year. 


Eligibility Requirements:

1. Applicants must be an active Member of the Cooperative or their immediate family member whose primary residence is served by the Cooperative.
2. Graduating high school seniors must have maintained a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale.
3. Applicants must meet general admittance requirements of the accredited four year university/college, junior college or TEA approved trade school to which they apply to receive funds.
4. Students currently enrolled in post-secondary educational course work must have maintained a minimum cumulate 2.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale at an accredited four year university/college, junior college or TEA approved trade school.
5. Applicants must enroll as a full-time student (minimum of 12 semester-hours).
