BEC 69th Annual Meeting of the Membership Successful
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 3:24pm
The BEC 69th Annual Meeting of the Membership was held Saturday, May 10. The meeting went well, three board members were elected:

Members in the record crowd of 450-500 people especially liked winning the 69 door prizes BEC gave away during the course of the meeting. Each year for the past several years the number of Members attending the meeting has grown and we saw that trend continued again this year.

Members present approved the minutes of the last annual meeting; reviewed and accepted the 2007 Annual Report; watched an informative video about BEC's challenges and success over the past year; heard from and voted on the director candidates for districts 1, 2 and 3 (results are below); recognized the employees' years of service; honored Youth Tour winners; soaked up the CEO's presentation; heard several members' questions and BEC's answers in the new business segment; and, after the grand prizes were given, adjourned.

Youth Tour Winners

  • Jordan Martinez, Leakey

  • Maria Ponce, Vanderpool

  • Jesse Pfieffer, Utopia

  • Anne Jenschke, Bandera

  • Brady Burns, Utopia (alternate)

Jordan Martinez was one of the four Youth Tour winnwers.

Each year for a number of years BEC has sent high school age teens from the BEC service area to Washington D.C. on a one week educational trip. The winners have to write an essay which is judged by an independent judge not employed by BEC. The teens join over 100 students from around Texas who were selected by other electric cooperatives to make the trip. The group not only sees the sights, but also meets with elected representatives and receives a history of cooperatives in an innovative theatrical presentation. Past participants report that the trip was a positive and life changing experience.

The Annual Meeting is the end product of a tremendous amount of planning, pre-meeting work and an incredible team effort by BEC employees from all departments.
