Bandera Outage September 11, 2007
Tuesday, Sep 11, 2007 2:23pm
An outage occurred this morning at 9:57 AM affecting about 1,000 BEC members in the Bandera area for seven minutes.  It was caused by a Pike crew, a BEC contractor, who was doing work on BEC power lines at 9th and Pecan streets in Bandera. The Pike crew accidentally touched two high-voltage wires together causing an electrical short circuit. BEC automatic protective circuit breakers detected the problem and quickly turned off the electricity. Fortunately no one was injured.

Anytime we work on energized power lines there is a possibility that such an accident can occur, but there are a number of precautions BEC follows to reduce the risks. Those safety procedures were followed and likely kept this from becoming a more severe incident.
