Information: Kerrville Area Power Outage March 14
Thursday, Mar 15, 2007 2:09pm
Over 2,200 Member accounts around the Kerrville area were affected by a power outage from about 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14. Areas affected by the outage included Turtle Creek, Lower Turtle Creek, Kerrville South, Hunt, 173 South of Kerrville, The Woods and Hwy 16 south to the mountain.

The outage was caused by equipment failure in the BEC Turtle Creek substation. The inner workings of one of the protective breakers gave way causing an explosion in the station.  Other protective equipment operated as it was designed and turned off the power to the entire station until BEC could make emergency repairs.

BEC had its new outage call management system operational which included information about the outage that callers heard. All 15 available phone lines were tied up at times with callers. BEC employees also contacted area law enforcement and Members who are listed in its critical care register (those who depend on electricity for medical reasons) to keep them updated about the outage.
