Power Blinks and What They Mean
Friday, Jan 08, 2010 10:02am If you are experiencing "blinks" in your power, please call the Cooperative at 1-866-226-3372 to report them.
At times, Members may experience “blinks” in their power, when the lights quickly blink off and then immediately come back on. Blinks are the system’s way of telling us that it is feeling strained for one reason or another. Continuous blinks are an indication that our system is having a problem that requires our immediate attention. It is important that when Members experience any blinks in their electric service they call the Co-op and let us know so we can investigate the cause and fix any problem that is occurring. Causes for blinks can include: o Heavy power loads
o Wind blowing trees into lines
o Equipment failure
o Temporary faults caused by a bird or animal making contact with the line
In times of extreme cold weather, a Member’s power may blink due to heavy loads (i.e. high electricity use that results from a cold snap). Should the Cooperative identify this as the cause of the blink, it is important Members conserve as much electricity as possible to help avoid possible outages. Some suggestions are to turn your thermostat down a few degrees, turn off lights around the house, unplug appliances not in use and alter your schedule so you aren’t using any unnecessary electricity.
It is a good idea to watch for updates on our website at www.banderaelectric.com. Anytime Bandera Electric needs to communicate immediate information to the Member, we will post an update with pertinent information on the website. As always, you can call our office with questions or concerns at 1-866-226-3372.
