Concrete Poles Arriving
Wednesday, Nov 04, 2009 1:46pm You may notice concrete poles stacking up around the Bandera BEC office. In total, 190 concrete poles have been ordered by BEC. The poles will be stored in the material yard and in the area next to Mansfield Park. Each pole is between 80 and 100 feet tall, a little more than 3 feet in diameter and weighs about 48,000 pounds. On Monday, November 2nd, the first group of poles arrived and we expect 6 per day to come thru Bandera until they are all delivered.
These poles will be used to rebuild approximately 28 miles of transmission line. Transmission lines move electricity from power plants to Bandera Electric Cooperative. BEC agreed to rebuild these lines as part of an update needed for a statewide program. Because the new poles are taller than the existing structures, this will reduce the number of poles along these lines by about a third.
One hundred and twenty eight of the poles will be used on a line that runs from the Bandera substation (behind the Bandera BEC office) to the Verde Creek substation (Center Point area). The other 62 will be used from the Pipe Creek substation to the Medina Lake substation.
Each job will take about six months to complete and crews will be working on the two locations simultaneously.
