(Note: As of April 2008 the total cost of power under this plan is less than standard power see bill comparison below.)

The Choose-To-Renew program is a renewable energy plan where Members buy wind and some hydro power for a fixed amount. Members may purchase power in 100 kilowatt-hour (kWh) blocks or have ALL their power on the rate. BEC offers this very attractive program in conjunction with our principle wholesale energy provider, LCRA.

The current fixed rate is $0.08107 per kWh* for BEC Members. If a member selects the "All" option, no monthly fluctuating Purchase Power Cost Adjustment is applied to their bill. The $20 Availability charge still applies, but the amount you pay per kWh is the same each month. Your bill will still change each month as your usage changes, but the amount you pay per kWh is the same.

Keep in mind, the fixed rate may change a bit just after the new year. We will let you know if it changes and you can decide if the program is still right for you.

Renewable produced energy has no air emissions and has a minimal impact on the environment. It is produced with resources that normally occur in nature.

The renewable power rate is governed by two sections of the Cooperative’s tariffs.

 There is a limited amount of power available on this program, so it is offered by the Cooperative on a first come first serve basis. Certain restrictions apply as to the amount that a single account can purchase. This is available to residential and commercial Members (outdoor lighting and large power accounts are excluded).
